Our Mission
The Colorado Climbing Foundation (CCF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Colorado’s climbing community and protecting the places that make climbing here possible.Our mission is to celebrate Colorado’s climbing heritage, promote responsible stewardship and access, support climbing education and community initiatives, and create meaningful ways for climbers to give back.One of our first major initiatives is the creation of a Colorado climbing specialty license plate—a plate created by and for Colorado climbers. More than a celebration of our state’s climbing identity, the plate is intended to generate lasting awareness and financial support for stewardship, access, conservation, education, and climbing-related projects throughout Colorado.From the Front Range to the Western Slope and everywhere in between, CCF is built around a simple idea: celebrate climbing, protect the places we climb, and invest in their future.
A License Plate for Colorado Climbers
Our Community Deserves Some Recognition—and Some Swag!The Colorado Climbing License Plate is a proposed specialty plate created to celebrate Colorado’s climbing community, history, and iconic landscapes.Designed to stand out on the road while reflecting the character of climbing in Colorado, the plate gives climbers a way to represent the community wherever they go—and turns that representation into something meaningful.Proceeds from the plate program are intended to support the Colorado Climbing Foundation and climbing-related projects across the state, including stewardship, access, conservation, education, and preservation of Colorado’s climbing heritage.But first, we need Colorado climbers behind it. Our goal is to demonstrate the support needed to make a dedicated climbing license plate a reality.Help us put climbing on the map—and on the road.
The Proposed Plate Design
The Design
The Colorado Climbing License Plate is designed to celebrate both Colorado’s climbing heritage and the landscapes that made it possible.The warm sandstone-red sky draws inspiration from the distinctive golden, pink, and red rock of Eldorado Canyon, with a simplified canyon silhouette creating a subtle reference to one of Colorado’s most historic climbing areas.Colorado’s familiar mountain landscape anchors the design, while the centerpiece pays tribute to the people and history of Colorado climbing: Layton Kor climbing The Naked Edge in Eldorado Canyon, photographed by Pat Ament. The historic photograph is presented in high-contrast black and white, allowing it to remain recognizable at license-plate scale while giving the plate a timeless character.The cream, sandstone, black, and gray palette keeps the design highly legible while reflecting the colors of Colorado rock and mountains.At the bottom is a simple message:CLIMB ONMore than a climbing phrase, it represents the spirit behind the plate—celebrating where Colorado climbing has been while helping support where it goes next.
Final artwork is subject to Colorado DMV approval. Historical photograph used in the proposed design is subject to final licensing and permission.
What We Need!
Colorado Climbers. That Means You.To make the Colorado Climbing License Plate a reality, we first need to demonstrate that Colorado’s climbing community wants it.The state requires support from at least 3,000 registered Colorado vehicle owners who commit to purchasing the plate before the proposal can move forward.Signing your support does not mean purchasing a plate today. It helps us demonstrate the demand necessary to take the next steps toward making the plate available.Our Goal: 3,000+ Colorado ClimbersEvery commitment gets us one step closer to putting Colorado climbing on Colorado roads—and creating a new source of support for climbing stewardship, access, education, and preservation of our climbing heritage.Climb here.
